In late 2019, I was inspired to begin the process of building the last GR 1.6’s which utilize the original .300″ thick chassis, Allen Power & Heyboer Output Transformer sets which I had in storage. There are now a total of 17 GR 1.6’s in existence thus completing the entire production run. It is not possible to build any more due to parts availability and materials.
The GR 1.6 represents an ideal of what I feel the maximum design performance is for an amplifier which utilizes the venerable 6V6 vacuum tube. Each is a study in the maximization of every musical parameter I find important as a guitarist-including elastic feel factor & touch sensitivity, versatility, reliability, tonality, low noise, expressiveness, FX friendly operation as well as the distinctive usefulness of a “whatever you can think, you can become” philosophy.
This amplifier design truly adapts itself for ANY style of guitar music perfectly and needs little in the way of adjustment when shifting between styles/sounds. It feels integrally connected to the player in the most satisfying and real way possible. This is an expressive instrument designed for inspiring the most creative artists and musicians of any style.
It’s not a clone of any other existing design-the design borrows several aspects from my very favorite amplifiers and places them into a very unique and versatile architecture. It’s a truly pleasing and luxurious amplifier design which garnered several impressive “in print” reviews from highly respected musicians and sources within the industry including Vintage Guitar Magazine & Tone Quest Report.
The GR 1.6 uses only the finest audio grade electronic components available including: Ohmite 2 Watt Carbon & Metal Film Signal Resistors, Azuma Silver/Gold Ceramic Sockets, PEC and Honeywell 2 Watt RV4N Series Pots, Alpha Wire, Custom Heyboer Power & Output Transformers, Mallory 150 Series Signal Capacitors, Sprague ATOM and EPCOS Filter Caps, Stainless Steel Hardware, Isolated Input and Output Jacks, NKK Heavy Duty Switches, and our Exclusive .300″ Thick Aluminum Chassis.
These are the finest examples of my work and are among the highest performing guitar amplifiers I have ever experienced.
